Sweet Averi: Northwest Indiana Newborn Photographer

I remember my very first newborn photography session.  I read a ton of articles and was ready to pose that baby just like I had seen a million times from a million other photographers.  When I got to the session, I quickly realized that things weren’t going the “posed” route like I had always envisioned.  Instead, I got a lot of shots of him in his mama’s arms, getting kisses from his daddy, and lying on their bed with sunlight streaming through the windows.  Right then I should have realized that was my “style” of newborn photography.  Well, I didn’t.

I proceeded to force “posed” shots throughout the next few newborn sessions and although I wasn’t feeling it, I kept trying and trying.  I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t approaching my newborn sessions like I approached every other session.

Well, this time I finally decided I would go with the instincts I had during that very first newborn session.  I took a lifestyle approach and captured little miss Averi in her mommy and daddy’s arms and stretching out on her family’s couch, her boppy pillow, and in her very own crib – everyday places in their everyday lives.  It felt so right to just capture her there.

I think I got confirmation of just how well this session fit my photography style as Averi’s mommy and daddy welcomed me into their home with the most laid back attitude about the session.  They were so warm and welcoming that it just felt right to start snapping away the moment I got there.  It was like I just slipped in right as they were feeding, changing, and loving on Averi.  It felt so right to do a session that way.  No props, no crazy posing, just them being them.  I can’t thank them enough for letting me be a part of their lives for just one night.  As I documented their new life with sweet little Averi, I also rediscovered how just much I love people.  There is nothing sweeter than witnessing a parent loving on their child and I am both humbled and grateful to be able to capture that with my camera.
